CAPALABA and Cleveland are among 240 regions across the country in which businesses will be eligible for faster, cheaper internet thanks to a huge NBN spend.
Last month, NBN Co announced a $700 million package aimed at attracting more businesses onto the network.
Across Australia, 240 business fibre zones will be created, within which businesses will be eligible for discounts on NBN Co's highest-quality business product, Enterprise Ethernet.
Bowman MP Andrew Laming said parts of the Redlands being declared business fibre zones meant 2428 businesses in Cleveland and Capalaba would have access to fast and reliable internet.
"Cleveland and Capalaba will be dedicated business fibre zones providing premium grade services and wholesale prices like those of the CBD straight into Redlands," he said.
"Redland businesses need choice and access to quality business NBN services to help unlock potential growth and productivity associated with technology investment.
"The ability of businesses to implement new technologies will enable them to create new jobs."
Businesses in the zones can access the NBN's fastest fibre connections for significantly reduced prices - in some cases, discounts of up to 67 per cent.
Mr Laming said COVID-19 had demonstrated how valuable digital technologies and cloud-based tools were for businesses.
"Companies are now more reliant on applications like remote file storage, content hosting, unified communications, large file distribution, and cloud-based business operations," he said.
It comes as NBN Co warned residents in the wake of this week's severe storms that equipment connected to the NBN would not work during power outages.
Head of nbn Local Queensland Kylie Lindsay said no technology was completely failsafe.
"In times of disaster, NBN has always been on the ground as soon as possible to provide temporary communications facilities to communities and emergency services while our technicians work to get areas back up and running," she said.
"But the reality is, residents need to be prepared to be without services for some time.
"NBN recommends that you put together an emergency kit which includes equipment (like a charged mobile phone) that can be used in the event that there is a power outage, or if your connection to the NBN is disrupted."
