From the moment the Christmas decorations hit the high street, it is all about the kids and watching their eyes light up with the joy of the festive season.
From singing carols, to putting up lights and Christmas decorations to trimming the tree and of course, opening all those presents on the actual day.
But one place children are often overlooked is when it comes to the main table and meal. While the main table is decked out with adult themed decor, there isn't always a lot of fun on there for the kids.
So why not make a special table just for the little ones to keep them content while the adults tuck in to the turkey. Get the kids involved from the start with colour schemes and themes.
A White Christmas
Who doesn't love snow and snowmen. Use some white plates - plastic or ceramic - one small and one big to make your basic snowman shape. Use some small brown biscuits for the eyes and a small carrot for the nose. Use a fork and spoon for arms and some bright material for his scarf or a bonbon can also work. If you want a complete white out use a white tablecloth too and sprinkle the table with some paper snowflakes. Add to the snowy Christmas theme with some snow cones for dessert. Who knows you may even have a snow cone maker hiding in your cupboard as they are popular presents or some department stores and kitchen shops stock affordable ones.
Creative table
If you want to keep the kids busy while the adults are eating, opt for the creative Christmas table settling. Cover your kids table in butchers paper and provide each little guest with a jar of colourful crayons and pencils. Cut out some Christmas themed pictures for them to work on or just let them enjoy making an artwork directly on the paper. Keep your plates and napkins colourful and make the kids feel extra special with colour themed name tags.
Santa theme
You really can't go past a red and white Santa theme when decorating a kids table, after all who doesn't want to wear a Santa hat on Christmas Day. Again use white plates, placed on red table mats. Add a Santa hat to the middle of each plate and personalise it adding their name with a gel pen or putting a named tag inside the rim. Add some striped candy canes and mistletoe to keep the festive cheer going and make up a little goody bag for each child with some Santa pictures and crayons to colour in.
If you aren't overly creative, don't despair there is plenty of inspiration online. But let the kids guide you and make it as much fun as you can.
