REDLANDS Rays' junior players got a taste of Major League Baseball during a gala night on Friday.
The fields were buzzing with activity, with all four corners of diamond one alive with more than 60 rookie ball players from eight teams.
The Rays, Eagles, Indians, Ipswich and Wests came together under lights for their last game of the pre-Christmas season.
Each team played two 45 minute games, giving emerging players a taste of competition baseball.
The mini tournament was planned and organised by Brisbane South Baseball Association, who manage the rookie ball league for the south Brisbane region.
After the game, each player was presented with a Christmas stocking filled with sweets.
The event marked the last of the pre-Christmas half season with all junior games recommencing on the January 30, 2021.
The gala night followed last week's highly successful Little League Under Lights event, when Rays Little League Division 2 Mantarays played Stingrays and drew a large crowd for their final game of 2020.
The under lights event was modelled on Major League Baseball games, with team announcements, the national anthem, walk on songs and special guest Santa throwing the first pitch.
Both events were well supported.
