REDLAND-Victoria Point Sharks are looking for players to join the club's first senior women's Australian Rules team in 2021.
The club has had about 14 players register their interest but need 25 people joined on by February next year to get the team into a competition.
Coach Paul Magher said training sessions were already underway but would stop over Christmas before restarting on January 18.
"We are on a player recruitment drive at the moment," he said.
"To all those 18 to 30 something females that love AFL, the opportunity is now there in the Redlands to participate at a senior level.
"Over the years we have only been able to send players to other clubs once they reached 17 or 18, so this year we have decided we are going to have a crack at running a team."
Magher said there were many benefits to playing Aussie Rules and those that signed on would be involved in a first for the club.
"Victoria Point Sporting Club is a fairly broad sporting community," he said.
"There is the social aspect with the clubhouse and amenities, then there is the teamwork, friendships and comradery that comes with playing a team sport.
"We have got a good core of juniors who are ineligible to play juniors because of their age, and they are going to filter into that senior program.
"We have a fair few of those that we are fairly confident of securing, we just need to build the rest and its about trying to get the word out."
People interested in joining the team could contact coach Paul Magher on 0480 106 758 or football manager Nic Aldridge on 0415 483 568.
Expressions of interest could also be lodged with the club on its social media pages, including Facebook and Instagram.
