Jimboomba's supermarkets are packed as people rush to stock up after it was announced greater Brisbane and Logan would go into lockdown this weekend.
It came as authorities' warnings fell on deaf ears. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk took to social media in an attempt to calm the masses.
"There is no need to rush out and panic buy," she wrote.
"Groceries and essentials will still be available while greater Brisbane is in lockdown. Make sure you wear a mask and observe social distancing."
Queues for the checkouts stretched most of the way down multiple aisles at Woolworths this morning.
At Coles, a staff member was on hand to user a line of shoppers into the store.
Traffic was backed up along Cusack Lane while people rushed to buy groceries.
Carparks in the town were full, with the overflow spilling out to the Rotary park bays.
One shopper told the Jimboomba Times he waited in line at Woolworths for more than an hour to pay for his groceries.
"You couldn't move up and down the aisles," he said.
"There were lines down every aisle.
"It was stupid in there. They should have stopped people coming in."
Another shopper said people were courteous, but it was testing times for everyone in the shop.
"They were nice people, but everyone was getting impatient," she said.
Friday, 9.30am update
Logan mayor Darren Power has called for calm among residents who will go into a three-day lockdown from tonight as a response to a new COVID-19 threat in the greater Brisbane area.
Cr Power warned locals it might just be the start of further restrictions imposed by the government after a hotel worker was found to have a mutant UK strain of the virus.
He said Australia had been living in a false sense of security as the world approached the 15,000 deaths per day mark.
"There is no guarantee this won't be the last lockdown," Cr Power said.
"This is our time to do the right thing."
He told residents it was essential they wore masks when going out.

REDLANDS and Logan residents will be required to stay at home for three days from this evening as a coronavirus lockdown is imposed on the greater Brisbane area.
It comes just hours after a hotel quarantine worker was found to have the fast-spreading, mutant UK strain of COVID-19.
Lockdown will begin at 6pm tonight and finish 6pm on Monday.
Anyone who has been in the greater Brisbane area since January 2, but might be elsewhere in the state, is also being asked to stay home.
Masks are mandatory while out in public.
Nine new cases were announced in Queensland today. All were detected in hotel quarantine.
People living in greater Brisbane may only leave their home for essential shopping, essential work, to provide healthcare to a vulnerable person, or for exercise in their local neighbourhood.
Community sport has been cancelled for the weekend, while funerals will be limited to 20 people and weddings 10 during the lockdown period.
Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young said the government was taking a cautious approach to the hotel quarantine case.
"Evidence shows that this variant is 70 percent more infectious than other strains," she said.
"This is why I'm taking this firm action swiftly, to protect our most vulnerable facilities."
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk urged anyone with symptoms to get tested.
The hotel quarantine worker was confirmed to have visited several locations across Brisbane while contagious.
