The Tasmanian government has declared the Greater Brisbane area high-risk, after Queensland announced a three-day lockdown for residents of the capital city and its surrounds.
It comes after a hotel quarantine worker in the city was diagnosed with a more infectious variant strain of the coronavirus.
Greater Brisbane encompasses the council areas of Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Ipswich and Logan.
Residents of the area will be required to stay at home and will not be permitted to travel.
"Any traveller arriving in Tasmania from today who has been in the Greater Brisbane area since 2 January will need to immediately quarantine for up to 14 days," Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein said.
"If they do not have a suitable premises they will be placed into a government quarantine hotel."
People who have travelled to Tasmania from the Greater Brisbane area since January 2 are urged to check the list of risk locations on the Queensland government's website.
"If you have been at any of these places at the dates and times, please self-isolate and contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 to arrange a test," Mr Gutwein said.
"An SMS will be sent today to all persons in Tasmania who were recently in Queensland with this advice."
