POLICE have praised North Stradbroke Island locals and visitors for their behaviour during the festive season and their response to the three day greater Brisbane COVID-19 lockdown.
Just one person blew over the blood alcohol limit during the Christmas and New Year period. This was despite police conducting more than 250 static and mobile tests.
Police were also impressed with the compliance to lockdown restrictions brought into effect on Friday.
Senior Constable Matt Boswell said there were few public order offences and crimes committed over the holidays.
"It was great to see the greater community enjoying North Stradbroke Island together," he said.
"With next to no drink drivers out on the roads, the last thing we as police want to do is ruin a holiday by issuing someone with a court date or attend a traffic crash.
"The police from Dunwich and Point Lookout would like to thank visitors and the local community for the way they responded during the greater Brisbane three day lockdown.
"The overall general compliance from everyone was great to see."
With the school holidays still in full swing, Senior Constable Boswell urged visitors to ensure their license and vehicle registration were up to date.
It comes after a man was caught driving an unregistered vehicle while camping on Main Beach.
The man had been pulled over for using a mobile phone while driving on Sunday, January 10 but a check of his vehicle revealed his registration had been cancelled.
He was issued fines and needed a lift back to his camp site with his car out of action.
Despite the good behaviour, speeding in built up areas remains an issue on the island, with a number of drivers receiving fines.
