BOWLER Mary Ross will forever be known as queen of the green at Cleveland Sharks Bowls Club.
Ross, who has a long list of bowls achievements and is still rolling them down at 92, has had a green named in her honour.
She made headlines in 2013 when, at 84, she competed in the State Mixed Pairs Lawn Bowls Championship alongside a 14-year-old.
The unlikely duo won the tournament, beating teams from as far away as Cairns and Longreach despite a 70-year age gap.
One of the Cleveland Sharks Bowls greens was renamed on Saturday to recognise her achievements and contributions to the club.
Secretary Betty Clarke said it was a fitting gesture for someone who had done just about everything in the sport while at Cleveland.
"It's a rare event in a bowls club's life to name a green," she said.
"We did so to ensure that every time a bowler comes to the club, they are reminded of the contribution that a particular person has made to the club's story.
"Mary has a mighty list of achievements, and has brought great credit and profile to the club over many years, and has done so with grace, wit and charm at all times."
Ross' bowling achievements stretch back to the 1990s, having started the decade by winning the State Singles Championship after going nine games undefeated.
She has represented Queensland in state and test series, and led Cleveland to victory in the State Pennant Finals in 2010.
On her 81st birthday she claimed the Pairs District Championships crown, and has won countless club pairs, fours and triples competitions.
She is also a 14-time Cleveland Ladies Singles Champion.
Clarke said the club held Ross in the highest regard.
"Mary is someone we wish all present and future club members to remember with fondness and admiration," she said. "In the meantime, we hope she enjoys bowling on her green."
