POLICE are appealing for information after eight car windscreens were smashed at a Dunwich car park last night.
Sergeant Darren Scanlan said it appeared a slingshot had been used as a tool to damage cars in the overflow parking area near the One Mile Jetty.
The incidents occurred on Wednesday between 3.30pm and 7pm.
"One vehicle that was damaged belonged to a resident of 35 years who attended a medical appointment on the mainland and upon returning discovered the damage," Sergeant Scanlan said.
"They were upset and rightly so. Police conducted a patrol of the area and located the other damaged vehicles.
"We don't need this mindless damage in our community. Other people's property should be respected."
Police are also investigating a number of matters which have occurred at Dunwich Primary School and nearby properties over the last few weeks.
Youths as young as eight are alleged to have lit flares on school grounds, smashed bottles and thrown rocks at houses. All incidents occurred at night.
Sergeant Scanlan said the alleged offenders could expect a knock on the door.
"The lighting of the flares is quite serious as it could start a fire resulting in the school burning down," he said.
"When police respond, the juveniles run off. However, we have been given a list of names from the community so they can expect a knock on the door.
"It really is a shame that some children are doing this and they will be held accountable for their actions.
"Parents also need to be aware where their children are at night and not leave them to roam the street."
Anyone with information should contact Dunwich Police on 3409 6020 or call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
