A weakening tropical low approaching Western Australia's Pilbara and Kimberley coast is no longer expected to develop into a cyclone.
Authorities had been expecting WA's first tropical cyclone of the summer, to be named Lucas, to make landfall late on Friday.
But the Bureau of Meteorology says the tropical low has shifted east, reducing its time to develop over favourable ocean conditions and pick up strength.
A severe weather warning remains in place for parts of the Kimberley, Pilbara and northern interior districts as the system moves across Eighty Mile Beach.
The bureau is forecasting heavy rain with daily totals of up to 200mm and isolated falls in excess of 300mm, potentially leading to flash flooding.
Damaging winds with gusts up to 100km/h are possible in coastal araeas between Bidyadanga and De Grey.
Squally conditions are expected to ease late Friday or early Saturday as the tropical low weakens over land.
Locations which may be affected include Bidyadanga, Parnngurr, Sandfire, Telfer and Wallal Downs.
A flood watch is also in place for parts of the Kimberley and Pilbara.
WA's Department of Fire and Emergency Services earlier issued a Blue alert for communities between Beagle Bay and De Grey, including tourist hotspot Broome.
Holidaymakers camping or travelling in caravans were urged to find safe accommodation or leave the warning area.
The low had been expected to develop into a cyclone with category 2 intensity late on Friday.
Significant swell had initially been expected at Port Hedland, home to the world's largest bulk export terminal and customers including major iron ore miners.
The Pilbara Ports Authority directed all large vessels to clear the terminal in anticipation of the cyclone's arrival.
A second tropical low has brought gale force winds and heavy rain to the remote Cocos Keeling Islands, 900km from Christmas Island.
Conditions are forecast to ease as the system tracks south.
