CLEVELAND Sharks have hit the road to rural Queensland again, this time visiting a club east of Stanthorpe.
It comes about a year after they took more than 40 bowlers to the town of Yarraman in the Toowoomba region, where they injected some much-needed money into the drought-hit local economy.
The Cleveland contingent helped fill two greens at The Summit Bowls Club, where they played against more than 30 local players.
Cleveland Sharks secretary Betty Clarke said it was the greatest turnout of bowlers the club had seen in recent years.
"Cold drinks were had and stories exchanged in the club after the game," she said. "It was country hospitality at its best."
The Sharks were praised by the owner of the Royal Hotel in Yarraman last year after the group stopped in for dinner, boosting the business' usual trade.
The bowlers visited O'Mara's pub in Stanthorpe this time around and enjoyed the venue's wide selection of meals.
"The stayers ended up drinking their favourite drinks around the bar till very late, Baileys on ice being a favourite," Clarke said.
Killarney, which is located in the Southern Downs, was the final destination for the bowlers on their way back to the Redlands.
Clarke said the green proved challenging but the bowlers were impressed by the hospitality shown by the locals.
"We arrived back at our club around 5pm, tired but very happy after an enjoyable two days in the country," she said.
The club is challenging other city bowlers to venture to the bush.
