DOWN Mystery Road carries an emotion of a life in a very special place hidden on Tamborine Mountain.
The song is the latest from Capalaba musicians SM2 - Steve Brady, Michael Stewart, Michael Quinn and James Morrison.
Mr Stewart said Down Mystery Road was inspired after listening to Leo Sayer's Orchard Road and the idea for a song came about after Sandra Flett, a close friend spoke of her love of the English-Australian singer's hit.
"I have written to Leo and told him of the inspiration of the song and that it initially came from listening to his song Orchard Road," he said.
The songwriter studied Orchard Road and developed his own storyline. At one point in the song, he needed a road to hang the storyline and his research lead him to Mystery Road on Tamborine Mountain.
"It was staring me in the face, I just knew I had the right road and right line," he said.
After speaking with an history expert on Tamborine Mountain, Mr Stewart found out that Mystery Road was the original way up the mountain.
"It has also turned out Sandra's house has a history that involved a life of poetry from the early days of Tamborine.
"The lyric says her house is 'whitewashed painted and ready as a home; As I stand here, she is my love' - this is certainly true and Sandra would agree wholeheartedly that it is her life's joy," he said.
Mr Quinn composed, sung and played all instruments except drums for the song.
Mr Stewart said what his best friend had done was exceptional as he gave Down Mystery Road its beating heart.
"This song is special in how the story has connected with the roll of the drum and use of cymbals. If you listen carefully, you will hear piano and some clever licks being performed in the background," he said.
Mr Stewart said the musicians have plans to arrange Down Mystery Road as an orchestral work and take it to a new level.
