TWO 19-year-old men will face court in April charged with dangerous driving after an alleged road race at Wellington Point last week.
Police were called to Main Road on Thursday after vehicles were reported racing in the area and at the entrance to the reserve, which locals have previously identified as a hot-spot for hoons.
Patrols failed to find the vehicles but footage produced by the public, some of which was captured on CCTV, helped police track down the alleged offenders yesterday.
They were charged with dangerous driving and are due in Cleveland Magistrates Court in April. Police also impounded a vehicle for forfeiture.
The incident comes less than a month after police released a photo showing a car doing burnouts near a young child at the reserve.
Residents told the Redland City Bulletin last year that hoons and anti-social behaviour had been plaguing the neighbourhood for decades.
A Main Road resident, who did not want her name used, said locals were upset by the hooning and called for greater security in the area.
Ben White said in December he would regularly see cars travelling at double the speed limit.
"If you want to go and belt your car around, take it to a track, otherwise you stick to the road rules," he said.
"Everyone has as much right to be there as you."
Police thanked the public for their assistance during investigations into the alleged road race and encouraged the community to continue reporting hooning matters at forms.police.qld.gov.au.
People are urged to call triple zero if an incident is in progress or someone is in danger.
