A MAN is due to face court after a security guard was allegedly kneed in the head and struck in the mouth during a fight at a Point Lookout pub last week.
Police say an argument sparked an altercation between four men at the North Stradbroke Island Hotel on Friday night.
A security guard was allegedly caught in the crossfire after trying to break up the group when a man was pushed to the ground.
Police allege the security guard suffered bruising from blows to his head.
The fight was eventually put to an end but the abuse continued until two of the men left the scene.
Among those involved in the fight was a man who had managed to gain access to the pub despite being evicted from the venue previously.
The four men have been issued with several public nuisance infringement notices, while the man who allegedly assaulted the security guard will face Cleveland Magistrates Court.
Acting Sergeant Dave Bourke said the penalty for a public nuisance offence on or in the vicinity of a licensed premises was double the usual amount, which is is $3336 or six months in prison.
"This group had ample opportunity to walk away, however now they need to cop the consequences," he said.
The venue is also working to reduce alcohol fueled violence by issuing a three-month ban to those involved in the scuffle.
Seatbelts a must, warn police
DUNWICH police have caught five drivers flouting seatbelt rules in the past week.
One person caught without a seatbelt also copped fines for failing to properly secure a child.
Acting Sergeant Bourke said motorists failing to wear seatbelts was a major concern for police, particularly if children were involved.
"The last thing that any emergency worker wants to go to is a serious crash where injuries could have been prevented by simply wearing a seatbelt," he said.
