REDLANDS MP Kim Richards has told Parliament that a fake Facebook profile and email account was used to make accusations about a Redland councillor's wife during last year's election.
Ms Richards told Parliament the alias Scarlett Rivers was used to send information about Cr Lance Hewlett's wife, Sheena, to her kindergarten employer.
The information alleged Mrs Hewlett had posted unauthorised images of students on social media.
Ms Richards told Parliament the IP address of the computer used to create the fake profile had been traced to the home of Redland councillor Rowanne McKenzie.
Documents tabled in Parliament showed Mrs Hewlett lodged a stalking complaint against Cr McKenzie, who later refused to answer questions during a police interview about the issue.
The documents, which contained an email conversation between Mrs Hewlett and police from March and April last year, identified Cr McKenzie and her husband Douglas as suspects.
Cr McKenzie did not respond to Redland City Bulletin attempts by phone, text and email to reply to the allegations.
Cr McKenzie ran a strong campaign in the March elections, to unseat the long-serving Cr Murray Elliott.
The social media behaviour of councillors and MPs in the Redlands has been a long running issue, with mayor Karen Williams frequently admonishing some councillors for poor behaviour.
Problems at Redlands, Ipswich and Logan councils also led to Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe introducing a code of conduct in late 2018 which spells out the minimum behaviour required of councillors.
Rules include automatic suspension of mayors and councillors for a range of integrity offences and power for the minister to dismiss or suspend a council, councillor or mayor in the public interest.
Councillors can also be forced to reimburse costs arising from inappropriate conduct.
These rules apply only to sitting councillors and do not apply during election periods
