THE tennis courts at a Thorneside sportsfield are being revamped as part of a nearly $14 million effort to do up Redlands parks and sporting grounds.
Redland City Council has kicked off works to renew all four tennis courts and move two cricket nets at William Taylor Memorial Sportsfield.
The sportsfield is used by local soccer, netball, tennis and cricket clubs.
Mayor Karen Williams said the upgrades were part of a $13.8 million program to improve popular parks and sports fields.
"All four tennis courts will be renewed as they have reached their end of life, and the public cricket nets are being relocated in order to better manage concerns between the soccer players and people using the practice nets," she said.
The cricket nets will get new surfacing and fences.
Cr Paul Bishop said the tennis facilities had been managed for many decades by members of Thorneside Community Tennis Association.
"The renewal works will include premier sport surfacing, new light fixtures to existing poles, new posts and nets, fencing and gates," he said.
"The tennis court shelters will also receive new lighting, door and roof repairs, and will be fully repainted."
Council is in the concept phase for the future development of William Taylor Sportsfield.
"I look forward to proposed future upgrades of the park, which will be informed by consultation with local clubs and park users," Cr Bishop said.
The tennis courts and public cricket nets will be closed during upgrade, which is set to be finished by May 6.
All other park facilities will remain open.
