THE AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine rollout for staff at Redland Hospital is into its second week, with the number of doses administered at the hospital now past 500.
It comes as Queensland records one new local case of the virus this morning, taking the number of active cases across the state to 69.
A 26-year-old Stafford man tested positive yesterday but had been infectious in the community since last Friday.
Alerts have been issued for several south-east venues, including Carindale Shopping Centre, north-west of Capalaba.
A total of 53,989 jabs have been administered across the state since the rollout started in February.
ED nurse Tracey Silver was the first to receive the jab at a clinic opened last week to deliver the vaccine to healthcare workers and other staff at Redland Hospital.
"It is thrilling that this day has come, and it will provide peace of mind moving forward," she said.
Vaccination clinic coordinator Tracey McTigue has stepped away from her regular role leading the nursing team in the emergency department to help establish the vaccine clinic.
She said it had been a unique opportunity and not one she would soon forget.
"The past 12 months have been different and challenging, but also wonderful to see our staff come together to keep our community and each other safe," she said.
"I am very much used to a fast-paced, ever changing environment in the emergency department so to be here, setting up a clinic that will protect our healthcare workers, has been amazing.
"Our staff at Redland Hospital have worked incredibly hard to ensure the clinic was ready to deliver the vaccination so to see our colleagues coming and eager to get their jab is incredibly exciting and rewarding."
Bayside Health Service executive director Susan Freiberg said now was an important time for everyone after a busy 12 months responding to the pandemic.
"We have established screening clinics, stood up COVID wards, responded to surges in testing numbers, and retrained and redeployed staff to ensure our community has stayed safe," she said.
"I am incredibly proud of all of our Redland Hospital staff for continuing to provide high quality healthcare to our community during this challenging time."
More than half a million COVID-19 tests have been carried out across Metro South Health since January 2020.
As of Wednesday, no cases of coronavirus were being treated at Redland Hospital.
