A 49-year-old Dunwich man has been arrested and charged after an alleged domestic violence incident on North Stradbroke Island this week.
The man has been remanded in custody and is due to face Cleveland Magistrates Court this month charged with attempted murder (domestic violence offence).
Further information, including the time and details of the incident, could not be revealed.
Sergeant Darren Scanlan urged the public to contact police if they suspected a family member or friend was a victim of domestic violence.
"Don't wait until it is too late," he said. "Police can take any action necessary and provide support to both parties through our partnership with support groups to help break the scourge."
Teenage fool cops $800 fine
An 18-year-old Dunwich man has been slapped with an $800 fine for behaving in a disorderly manner at the Stradbroke Island Hotel on Saturday night.
The man is alleged to have sworn at police and called them derogatory names while they were speaking with an intoxicated patron.
He was told to move away but continued his behaviour, for which he received a fine.
"Officers were helping an intoxicated male, then this fool comes over and starts calling them every name under the sun," Sergeant Scanlan said. "It is not acceptable behaviour."
Two men blow over limit
A 37-year-old Marooka man blew more than four times the legal alcohol limit during a visit to the island.
Police intercepted the man about 10.40pm as he left the Stradbroke Island Hotel.
He was arrested after allegedly failing to take a roadside test and taken to the police station, where he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.221.
His license has been suspended and he is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court charged with driving under the influence.
"This is a disgraceful and very dangerous reading," Sergeant Scanlan said. "He was almost 4 and a half times over the legal limit.
" ... He only had to walk 500m to his accommodation and he would have been right.
"He tried to run the gauntlet thinking (he could) get away with it and failed. We will catch you."
A 37-year-old New South Wales man is also due to face court after blowing almost three times the legal limit just hours earlier.
Police pulled the man over about 8.15pm after he was seen driving erratically on Cumming Parade at Point Lookout.
His license was suspended after returning a reading of 0.144. He is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court.
Police handed out several fines this week for driving offences like using a mobile phone while driving, failing to wear a seatbelt and speeding.
"Our road toll is too high," Sergeant Scanlan said. "We all know you must wear a seatbelt when you get in a vehicle and not speed.
"These offences are part of the fatal five which are proven to contribute to road fatalities."
