MORE than 4700 fines were issued for traffic offences on Queensland roads over the Easter long weekend.
Speeding made up about half of all the infringements handed out, with 2409 drivers caught over the limit.
It comes just days after 23-year-old man, driving a Holden sedan, was picked up by a mobile radar travelling at 143km/h in an 80km/h zone on North Stradbroke Island.
A total of 219 drug drivers and 228 drink drivers were also picked up across the Easter weekend, with 4742 offences recorded in total.
Six people lost their lives and 135 individuals were injured in crashes across the state.
A Capalaba woman was among those injured over the weekend when she was hit by a silver Honda Jazz while crossing Tingal Road at Wynnum on Sunday.
She was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital where she was in a critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Ray Rohweder said he was disappointed with driver behaviour over Easter, noting the significant number of lives lost and injuries sustained as a result of serious crashes.
"Motorists need to understand making good decisions on our roads counts," he said.
"Your decisions have a direct consequence on your life and those around you.
"Police are out on our roads detecting offences.
"We continue to target areas based on trends and analysis in driver behaviours.
"People can expect police to be anywhere at any time."
