Kayakers rescue elderly fisherman from Calliope River
Kayakers plucked an elderly fisherman from the Calliope River in central Queensland on Sunday after he fell overboard when his tinnie was rocked by the wake of another vessel.
The man, 73, injured his hand in the blades of the motor as he tried to get back onto his boat, which had started spinning out of control with no one on board.
Three kayakers - aged 28, 29 and 30 - paddled over to the fisherman and held onto him as they called out to a passing boat for help.
He was pulled from the water and taken to shore.
A police officer commandeered a boat from the ramp, and with the assistance of its skipper, travelled to the out of control fisherman's tinnie.
The skipper nudged the boat, pushing it forward before the officer jumped on board and steered it to shore.
The fisherman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
