REDLAND-Victoria Point Sharks will play their first home game of the QAFL season this weekend at Totally Workwear Parl (Ern Dowling Oval) with all four senior teams in the clash against Palm Beach Currumbin
The women's team will also be playing in round 1 of the QFAW Division 2 Central season. It will be the club's first senior women's game for premiership points since 2006.
Saturday will be the first time the club has played at home since July 25, 2020.
Because it is an Anzac Round across all AFL Queensland leagues, the player in the senior match considered to best exemplify the Anzac spirit - skill, courage, self-sacrifice, teamwork and fair play - will be awarded the Corporal Cameron Baird VCMG medal.
Corporal Baird was a talented footballer in his day with the Calder Cannons alongside current Redland-Victoria Point committee member and former player, Jeff Heath.
Sharks defender/wing Lachlan McDonald joined the senior team ahead of the 2020 NEAFL season before it was cancelled due to COVID-19 and said he was looking forward to the clash this weekend.
"All of the boys have been talking it up all year throughout the preseason - the first game here. It's a big occasion for the club but it's also Anzac round so all of the boys will be revved up and ready to go. It should be a good hit out," he said.
McDonald said his first full season at the club had been great.
"Palm Beach Currumbin have been in pretty good form this year but I think we're going to come out really hard this game.
"We were very disappointed in how we played against Labrador after coming off the highs of beating Surfers Paradise. It should be a good contest in the end."
The women's team will take on the Moreton Bay Lions later on Saturday afternoon.
"It'll be a great occasion for the women's team as well. They've been doing really well over the pre-season as well so we'll get around them one hundred per cent and hopefully they have a good hit-out against Moreton Bay this weekend," McDonald said.
