RYDELL High opens in the Redlands.
Ormiston College will stage the much-loved, iconic Grease next month.
The production opens on Thursday May 8 at 7pm and runs on Friday May 9 and Saturday May 10 (matinee 1:30pm and evening show). The show will be held in the Lingo Lin Performing Arts Theatre, Sturgeon Street Ormiston.
Here is Rydell High's senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding Burger Palace Boys and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking Pink Ladies in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950's in this rollicking musical.
Head 'greaser' Danny Zuko played by Ripley Welsh and new good girl Sandy Dumbrowski aka Katie Jacobsen try to relive the high romance of their Summer Nights as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as Greased Lightnin, Hopelessly Devoted and You're the One That I Want recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation.
Audiences will be thrilled with the revival of this favourite movie with recognisable characters as Betty Rizzo (Grace Garnett), Frenchy (Lindsay Hibberd), Kenickie (Marcus Henville) and the every-nerdy Patty Simcox (Ellie Webster) and Eugene Florczyk (Ryan McDonald).
With Pink Ladies played by Anna Snaylam and Ava Bampton, and Burger Palace Boys, Aaron Gomez and Joshua Honeycomb, you can't help but get into the hand jive.
The production will feature a stage filled with prom dresses and leather jackets, cheerleading outfits and even a roller skate or two; not to mention Greased Lightning itself, the car that brings Rydell High right into the Redlands.
The staging of musical theatre is the ultimate collaborative event. More than 77 students have been in production since October 2020 and will be joined on stage by a seven-piece rock band featuring talented musicians.
Producer Peta Raftery said talent ran deep at Ormiston College.
"Many of our alumni have gone on to work professionally around the world.
"Our students are indeed rising to the challenge of such an energetic show and audience's will simply love watching Grease and the 1950s come to life. Our young people are forming friendships and making memories that they will carry with them for a lifetime," she said.
Members of the College Alumni and a large contingent of parent volunteers make up the team, who, along with a crew of dedicated staff, are delighted to share this production with the community.
Tickets cost between $30 - $35 and are available on the Ormiston College website www.ormistoncollege.com.au .
