SEVERAL people have been charged and are due to face court after wedding celebrations turned ugly on North Stradbroke Island over the weekend.
A 22-year-old Lawnton man set off a series of events when he allegedly kicked a window and door at the Point Lookout Library as police tried to move on an intoxicated bridal party in the early hours of Anzac Day.
The man's family swore at officers and tried to intervene as he was arrested.
The bride, a 45-year-old Lawnton woman, and two groomsmen aged in their 20s, were charged with public nuisance offences and police obstruction.
The 22-year-old is alleged to have spat throughout the back of the police vehicle and urinated on the walls and floors of the cell while being taken to Dunwich watch house.
Police charged him with several willful damage offences and he is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court with other members of the bridal party at a later date.
Sergeant Darren Scanlan said family members should be ashamed of themselves.
"I reviewed the officers' body warn cameras and what they subjected the officers to was disgusting," he said.
"On what should have been a joyous and memorable occasion for all involved, (it) will now be remembered for all the wrong reasons."
Man carved by machete
A 51-year-old Dunwich man was struck by a machete and piece of wood during what police allege was a altercation between three men at a North Stradbroke Island property last Sunday night.
The man, who had a large gash to his arm and other injuries when he was located by police, fled the scene and flagged down a passing motorist who called emergency services.
He was transported to hospital for treatment.
Police located a 48-year-old Dunwich man, who had sustained facial injuries, and charged him with grievous bodily harm and bodily harm while armed in company.
"This is a very serious incident involving persons known to each other," Sergeant Scanlan said.
"I acknowledge the assistance provided by the motorist, QAS, staff from the Marie Rose Centre and VMR in treating the injured parties."
While the incident was ongoing, a police vehicle had its window smashed while being driven by an officer on Junner Street at Dunwich after leaving the police barge.
A number of teenagers were seen in the area and police are reviewing CCTV footage.
Sergeant Scanlan called on those responsible to come forward.
"This is very disappointing behaviour by young people in our community," he said.
"It was a deliberate act. The officer was in shock and was lucky not to get glass in their eye and lose control."
