POLICE are appealing for information as a search and rescue operation continues for a diver who went missing in waters off the coast of North Stradbroke Island yesterday.
Four men were free diving about four miles north-east of Point Lookout at 10.10am on Wednesday when a 26-year-old Norwegian national failed to return to the group's boat.
Five helicopters and six vessels were involved in yesterday's search after police were called about 10.45am.
Anyone who may have been in the area at the time or has information about the incident is urged to contact police.

Fears are growing for a Norwegian national who vanished while diving at North Stradbroke Island yesterday.
The man, aged in his 20s, went missing about 10.40am off Point Lookout on the island's northeastern tip.
Search teams including Redland Bay Coast Guard, VMR Raby Bay along with aircraft and water police are combing the coastline.

A search is underway for a diver who went missing off North Stradbroke Island earlier today.
Water police and Surf Life Saving Queensland lifeguards on jet skis are combing the waters and coastline.
The Gold Coast-based Westpac lifesaver rescue helicopter is also searching the area.
Surf Life Saving Queensland spokeswoman said the chopper was first tasked to the area near Flat Rock just after 11.15am, after conducting an initial search they were stood down and returned to base.
They returned to the search area around 2pm after being re-tasked by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
Three days ago rescue crews found the body of a woman who drowned in Moreton Bay on a fishing trip with her husband.
The couple's open fishing boat capsized near Mud Island in swells whipped up by strong winds.
Police reported that the boat capsized about 7pm on Saturday night within sight of the Port of Brisbane retaining walls.
The male clung to the boat but his wife was washed away. He was found Sunday morning.
Police acting senior Sergeant Mitch Gray said neither were wearing life jackets.
At the same time two jet ski riders became stranded, suffering hypothermia on mud flats on Russell Island after their machine broke down.
In other incidents a man drowned trying to paddle a kayak between North Stradbroke and Peel islands and in 2019 police rescued a second paddler after his kayak capsized off Wellington Point.
Police and Coast Guard continually warn about inexperienced people venturing into Moreton Bay in small craft not suitable for the big waterway's rough conditions.
In August last year two men died after their dinghy capsized off Green Island.
The month before two men were rescued off Wellington Point after their catamaran flipped.
