Coochiemudlo Island has one of Moreton Bay's finest mangrove forests and the local Heritage Society is celebrating these amazing plants with its inaugural Mangrove Festival.
On Saturday July 31, visitors can explore the forest on self-guided walks, and learn about the critical role mangroves play in the well-being of our planet.
Coochie's artists are on board with two gallery displays of original images and crafts inspired by these unique trees, and the marine diversity they nurture.
Boat trips out along the western edge of the island will bring visitors up close to the trees in the sea, and expert ecologists will be presenting talks and a Q & A.
Indigenous stories and knowledge will be presented by Quandamooka culture manager, Matthew Burns.
Festival tickets are available at www.cihs.org.au.
