CAPALABA FC have ended an eight-match winless run in the National Premier Leagues after a gritty 1-0 win over Brisbane Strikers on Saturday night.
Rising defensive talent Deng Deng was the hero for the Bulldogs as he tucked away a composed 37th minute strike to deliver the hosts their first win at their Max Haynes Field home since March.
But it was at the other end of the pitch where the Bulldogs showed their tenacity as they frustrated the Strikers to keep just their second clean sheet of the league campaign.
The result puts crucial breathing room between David McEvoy's side, currently sitting eleventh on the league table, and the competition's bottom three relegation zone.
"It was a very good result for us," McEvoy said. "It not only gets us away from the bottom three, but it puts us back within touching distance of the mid-table sides."

The result capped off a perfect week for the Bulldogs in the NPL, with the club's women's side also taking maximum points from two fixtures in the past week.
On Wednesday night, Archie Kahondo's side bounced back from a last start defeat with a solid 2-0 win over Mitchelton FC, with Issy Ward and Emma Pittman scoring a goal in each half.
They doubled down with an emphatic 6-0 win over Peninsula Power on Saturday night with recent signing Amber Simms stealing the show with a player of the match performance.
The returned fan favourite was one of three players to net a double in the one-sided result, with veterans Steph Latham and Amy Chapman also chiming in.
It also ensures the club's top women's team, and elite junior girls football program, are secured their place in the NPL Women's competition in 2022.
The Bulldogs NPL women's side now turn their attentions to Kappa Women's Super Cup competition when they tackle Lions FC in a winner-takes-all clash this coming weekend.
