Guitar virtuoso Karin Schaupp returns to the Redland Performing Arts centre at 7.30pm on August 6 performing with Deutsche Grammophon recording artist, Orava Quartet.
Together they will present a program of guitar quintets, string quartets and guitar solos from around the world. The concert is entitled Around the World.
Ms Schaupp has been a regular performer at RPAC, describing it as a beautiful venue that is integral to the Redlands.
"It is important to the area with a lovely acoustic. There is always a nice atmosphere there," she said.
"But it is not always the venue itself. It's about the people who are always welcoming and responsiove. The venue is a nice size to give an intimate concert that everyone can feel connected to."
Ms Schaupp said she also enjoyed playing with Orava Quartet.
"We have played for about five years together on and off and I always look forward to getting together. We have good fun and the group is easy to work with," she said.
Her performance at RPAC coincides with a Covid decision for Ms Schapp to not leave Queensland and to take her shows within the State.
"I've been keeping it local and it is great to be back on stage. I decided to do this to reduce the uncertainty of venues being cancelled. The decision has also allowed me to have time to create new projects."
Ms Schaupp performs widely on the international stage as a recitalist, concerto soloist and festival guest, and has given many recitals in Australia, Europe, Asia, the US, Mexico and Canada.
The Orava Quartet is the first Australian string quartet invited to sign with Universal Music. Earning a reputation for thrilling performances, the Quartet brings its unique sound and breathtaking intensity to the classics of the string quartet canon.
The program includes Vivaldi's Concerto in D major RV. 93 (originally written for lute), Franz Schubert's Lob der Traenen, J.K. Mertz's Tarantella, Luigi Boccherini's Guitar Quintet in D major, Kilar's Orawa, Robert Davidson's Landscape and Maximo Diego Pujol's Tangata de Agosto.
Karin and the Orava Quartet have been collaborating since first meeting at the Musica Viva Festival in 2015.
Tickets to Around the World are $35/$30/$25. Book on 3829 8131 or rpac.com.au (booking fees are $4.50 by phone and $5.20 online per transaction).
