ORMISTON College sport students have been given a boost, with the school opening a new athletics facility built to accommodate track and field events.
It comes ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games, which begin this week after a 12-month delay caused by the Covid pandemic.
Ormiston College headmaster Brett Webster said the facility would be for dedicated student athletes and those in physical education classes.
"It will bring with it better opportunities for students to improve their fitness, speed, strength, agility and general sporting prowess," he said.

"This will be a space where we emphasise the Olympic ideals relating to the joy of effort, fair play, respect for others, the pursuit of excellence, and balance between body, will and mind."
The athletics precinct adds to the school's other sporting facilities, which includes an aquatic centre, oval and several playing fields.
Ormiston College is also known for its Lingo Lin Performing Arts Theatre and Centre for Learning and Innovation, which has won awards since opening in 2018.
Students from grade 3 to 12 were the first to run on the new athletics track during an opening ceremony last week.
Redland Mayor Karen Williams, Mr Webster, Ormiston board of directors chairman John Miller and college captains Sam Dench and Charlotte Lane unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion.
Guests to the opening ceremony were entertained by a student musical presentation.
