Delays on the Cleveland train line could soon be a thing of the past as the Lindum level crossing precinct upgrade begins.
Work has started on short-term safety upgrades after a woman was killed when a train hit her car at the crossing adjacent to Lindum Station in February this year.
Although a major upgrade is being planned, Brisbane lord mayor Adrian Schrinner said council was working on signals and a reconfiguration of the intersection.
"It is important that we immediately start improving the safety and efficiency at the existing intersections surrounding the crossing while the preliminary business case is being undertaken, which is why we have committed $40 million to the Lindum Level Crossing Precinct project," Cr Schrinner said.
Transport Minister Mark Bailey said the upgrade included an improved pedestrian overpass with lift access linking platforms, as well as park 'n' ride improvements.
"This will improve safety for pedestrians, bike riders and commuters, and will bolster overall connectivity within the precinct," he said.
"...Lindum Station and its surrounds are a crucial part of the local community and this was reflected in the nearly 7000 website views, almost 300 completed surveys and 180 ideas shared on the online digital interactive wall."

Communications Minister Paul Fletcher said it was part of $4.8 billion in funding to reduce congestion in urban areas.
"The ... government is getting on with delivering infrastructure projects that improve congestion and safety for commuters across Australia, making it easier for them to move around our capital cities and ensuring they get home quickly and safely," he said.
"We are continuing to work with all levels of government to progress the preliminary business case for the long-term upgrades that will address essential safety, efficiency and accessibility issues within the Lindum Level Crossing precinct."
The federal government has planned 177 projects under the Urban Congestion Fund, with 65 in progress or already completed and 52 expected to start by the end of the year.
