POLICE have handed out several fines as Queenslanders continue to flout restrictions during the latest Covid lockdown, while testing numbers are increasing amid a surge in Delta cases.
A total of 13 new community acquired cases were announced this morning, seeing the lockdown extended to Sunday at 4pm for 11 south-east Queensland areas - including Redlands - and the Ekka show cancelled for 2021.
Testing numbers increased by more than 10,000 from Saturday to Sunday but authorities want to see that number rise again as they fight to contain the Delta outbreak, urging people with even mild symptoms to get a test.
More than 60 drive-in testing clinics are open across Queensland, including 33 in greater Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, while the state government has reached an agreement with private pathologists allowing people to get tested without a referral.
That would remain in place until midnight on Friday for pathologists in the 11 local government areas, including Redlands, Scenic Rim and Logan.
Queues were moving steadily through the clinic off Delancey Street at Ormiston this morning. It came after a quiet day for walk-in tests on Sunday at Redland Hospital.
Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski warned people to wake up to themselves as police dished out 29 infringements on Sunday for people flouting restrictions.
"What is disappointing, is in every single case, people are given the opportunity to comply (but) choose not to and we are left with no option," he said.
"For those that think that what they want to do is more important than the broader community, wake up to yourself."
Mr Gollschewski's warning came as protesters planned an anti-lockdown demonstration for Brisbane on Monday morning.
"It is quite regrettable for us that we have to be out policing a protest this morning when we're in lockdown," he said.
"My message to those people that are tying up hundreds of police that could be doing other things, is go home.
"Now is not the time to protest. Put the interests of your community's safety ahead of your own views."
Deputy premier Steven Miles said the three-day lockdown announced on Saturday would be insufficient to contain the outbreak.
"For us to come out of this at the weekend, we need absolutely everyone in those 11 LGAs to stay at home if they possibly can," he said.
"There are too many cars on the roads in Brisbane at the moment (and) too many people out and about."
