Work on Wollongong's mass COVID-19 vaccination hub in the Crown Street Mall continues apace, with the facility on track to open in the coming weeks.
The Illawarra Shoalhaven Mass Vaccination Centre will open in the former David Jones building in mid-August.
It will administer the Pfizer vaccine, with the capacity to deliver up to 15,000 shots each week, - about 2500 each day, for the six days it will open - with potential to expand in the future.
This is subject to vaccine supply.
Work at the centre has been allowed to continue during the construction shutdown in the Greater Sydney lockdown area because it is part of NSW Health's response to the pandemic.
But an Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District spokesperson said the site's COVID-safe plan had been strengthened to ensure work continued in a safe manner.
The existing Wollongong and Shellharbour clinics will close once the centre is open and anyone awaiting the vaccine from either of these sites will instead receive their shot at the new centre.
"Individuals will receive updated information about their appointment when the new booking system is operational at the end of July," the health district spokesperson said.
"The Shoalhaven vaccination clinic remains unchanged at this stage."
Residents of the health district are urged to check if they are eligible to receive a vaccine, and if so book an appointment, through the Australian government's online eligibility checker.
"If there are no available bookings at a location near you soon, please continue to visit the eligibility checker as more vaccination appointments become available," the district spokesperson said.
More than 50,000 COVID vaccinations have now been administered through the health district's clinics.
Any adult can now book and receive the AstraZeneca vaccine without going through a GP, at participating pharmacies and state vaccination clinics.
