Thousands of women have sat in Dawn Parker-Jones' chair over the past 40 years and left with a new, stylish look.
The Capalaba hairdresser has seen popular hairstyles come and go over four decades and hopes to see many more as she plans to expand her salon.
Mrs Parker-Jones started studying hairdressing and beauty therapy at college in the United Kingdom when she was just 16 years-old. She went on to lecture in beauty therapy after she completed her qualifications.
She said she had spent her career working in salons at home in the UK, around the world on ocean liners and in New Zealand until settling in Australia in 2012.
"I've touched every corner of the hair and beauty industry as a working hairdresser, an educator, travelling the world, I've been very blessed with my career," she said.
"When I moved to Redlands I felt a void in the industry, and I wanted people who came to my salon to feel special with one on one service.
"In my salon the person in the chair is my priority."
Mrs Parker-Jones is the owner of It's Personal Boutique Hair Lounge in Capalaba and won Redland's hairdresser of the year in 2020.
She said she had seen many hair styles fade in and out of popularity, with two highly requested looks.
"Lady Di and Jennifer Aniston are the two hairstyles I'd say I have cut the most, they were very popular," Mrs Parker-Jones said.
"The 80s was a fun stage, with loose curls and funky styles, pearls, headbands, fluro colours.
"The classic bob is one of my favorite haircuts still to this day."
She said the key to good hairdressing was communication and connecting with clients.
"When you get to know a customer you learn the things they like and don't like and it makes it easier for them to trust you with their hair," she said.
"My favourite thing about this job is making people feel confident and good about themselves, because then I know I have done my job."
Mrs Parker-Jones said she hoped to be in the industry for many more years, with plans to grow her salon in the Redlands but maintain the personal service.
"40 years ago I never would have believed I would still be in the industry, but I love it more and more every day," she said.
"If there's anyone thinking about giving hairdressing ago just do it, you're more than a hair stylist, you can empower others to feel confident enough to be themselves."
