Sheldon College has appointed a new principal Kate Mortimer, as founder Dr Lyn Bishop steps down after 25 years.
Ms Mortimer will take the reins from January next year.
Ms Mortimer was the deputy principal and head of senior school at St Peter's Girls' School in Adelaide for the past four and a half years.
Sheldon College Board chairperson Chris Wigan said Ms Mortimer showed confidence in her ability to nurture the culture Dr Bishop and her team had worked hard to establish and maintain.
"We received an outstanding response to the principal role, with many exceptional candidates across Australia and internationally," he said.
Mr Wigan described Ms Mortimer as a leader who was passionate, disciplined, motivated and an advocate of academic rigour.
"Ms Mortimer will be expected to build on the momentum of the college's success to date by continuing to champion our strategic direction and drive positive student outcomes," he said.
With more than 18 years' experience in prior positions in both single sex and co-educational environments, spanning all age groups, Ms Mortimer will focus on empowering academic leaders to develop strategic learning and teaching frameworks.
One of Ms Mortimer's priorities will be long-term sustainability and the advancement of partnerships to ensure students have the opportunity to be future ready.
"The college board and Dr Bishop are now focused on preparing a thorough and successful handover to enable a smooth transition for all members of the college community," Mr Wigan.
