Redlands residents will soon have the opportunity to test ride the cars of the future.
The Australian Electric Vehicle Association Queensland branch will host The Electric Vehicle Experience, a display and ride day at the Cleveland Showgrounds on September 26.
The AEVA and the Tesla Owner's Club have put together the free event to show people the quirks and perks of electric vehicles.
AVEA Queensland branch chairman Jon Day said the free event would showcase the benefits of electric cars.
"EVs are essentially better than standard cars in many ways," he said.
"They have no gears which means it's a smoother, quieter and more powerful drive than a petrol or diesel car."
The display will feature electric cars in a variety of makes and models and electric powered boat motors, bicycles, scooters and motorbikes.
There will be stalls for the electric vehicle dealers, accessories and charging equipment, as well as a large test ride area for people to take the products for a spin.
"We will have about 10 EVs there to test ride, and the owners will let you hop in and go for a drive with them," Mr Day said.
"You're going to get real feedback from the people who drive them everyday, so people will learn the reality of ownership, not from someone at a dealership."
The event is free at the Cleveland Showgrounds on Long Street on Sunday September 26 from 10am-2pm.
