REDLANDERS are being encouraged to make getting the COVID vaccine a family affair, with the state government announcing clinics will be open for walk-ins this weekend.
So far 57.3 per cent of Queenslanders have received one jab, while just under 40 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.
Redlands vaccine rates have followed a similar trend, with federal government data published on Sunday revealing 60.8 per cent have had one dose and 40.9 per cent have had both.
Suburb specific data released this week has given new insight into the local vaccine rollout, with 42 per cent of people in the Cleveland - Stradbroke area fully vaccinated and 39.8 per cent at Capalaba.
No data was available for other Redlands areas.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced yesterday that the Pfizer vaccine would be available to over 60s from this weekend and urged people to roll up their sleeves to prevent the Delta variant from entering Queensland.
It comes as more than 1000 students and families from St Thomas More College at Sunnybank remain in isolation after a 13-year-old student tested positive last Friday.
One new locally acquired case was announced today, another student from the school who tested positive in isolation and is not considered a risk.
Capalaba MP Don Brown said the move to open clinics for walk-ins was one that would be well-received by the Redlands community.
"Unfortunately, due to the Morrison government's total mishandling of the vaccination procurement and rollout, we have not had the supply to be able to offer this choice until now," he said.
"I have had some seniors over 60 in my electorate speaking to me really needing a choice in vaccine and now we are really pleased to be able to give them this choice."
Mr Brown said the Capalaba Place hub had been well attended and would be open for walk-ins at the weekend.
"I have had both of my jabs at the Capalaba hub," he said. "All of the Queensland Health staff and volunteers are doing an amazing job.
"If you haven't already, take this golden window of opportunity and get the whole family to roll up their sleeves and get protected."
