MEET the 12-year-old founder of Our Pixie Friends, a business aimed at helping children deal with medical issues.
Victoria Point's Siobhan Wilson was born three months premature with several ailments including allergies, asthma, and eczema. She had open heart surgery when she was just one month old.
The year 6 student knows the anxiety of many hospital trips, being different and feeling isolated.
It was while on one of these many trips to the doctor that Siobhan's business idea came to her. She was just six-years old.
"It's been really scary at times when I thought I was going to die. Feeling sick, trips to the hospital... I thought I was not normal.
"But then i realised I wasn't the only kid in the world with numerous medical conditions... and I wanted to help others feel ok and not be afraid," she said.
She published her first book Sakaela the Sneezy Pixie Visits Amy about a pixie who visits a child to help her overcome her fear of having nasal spray.
"It's a book about facing your fears and overcoming life's challenges.... not just about using nasal spray," Siobhan said.
She has four other books ready to be published focusing on children reducing their fear of medical procedures, being inclusive and friends supporting each other.
"I want children to know that it's okay to be friends with kids who have medical conditions. They are just other kids with feelings too.
"Don't leave them out because their skin is yucky or you don't know what they can eat. Don't bully or tease them," she said.
Siobhan has a website complete with character blogs, print-at-home activities and and interactive map of Sprizzletania and pixie profiles.
Children, or parents can create a pixie profile for any medical condition so the child does not feel like they are the only child in the world to have an illness.
Our Pixie Friends also offers activity books, gift sets, games and personalised products and even magic crystals to help children feel brave.
Siobhan donates 10 per cent of the proceeds to medical research.
She has been nominated for an Community and Social Enterprise Award at the Redlands Coast Business Excellence Awards on Saturday evening.
