STORMS hit central Queensland and Toowoomba this morning as the Weather Bureau warns that much of south-east Queensland will see showers and storms this week.
Redlands has a 90 per cent chance of rain tomorrow, Jimboomba an 80 per cent chance and Beaudesert the same although falls are not expected to be too heavy despite the threat of storms.
This decreases to about an even money chance for showers and storms for the rest of the week.
Forecaster Helen Reid said severe storms were possible south of Townsville and likely in the Central Highlands and Capricornia area for the next few days.
Heatwave conditions were developing for the Gulf of Carpentaria and surrounds, peaking midweek.
"Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible across much of the state later in the week, continuing into the weekend," she said.
Scherger RAAF base on Cape York Peninsular recorded 39.2C yesterday, its hottest October day since 2014.
