Bad weather has cancelled the first day of Australia's practice Ashes test at Wellington Point, but the Redland Tigers Cricket Club will prepare the fields for play tomorrow with weather expected to clear.
Cricket Australia has called off outdoor practice for the squad today, with the team to train indoors.
Redland Cricket president Sean Lloyd said the club was doing everything possible to protect Peter Burge Oval from the rain today.
"We want to give the Aussies the best opportunity for some centre wicket practice to help them win the Ashes," Mr Lloyd said.
"We are covering up additional run ups and we've got a cover over pretty much the whole field to make sure it is in the driest possible conditions with just a bit of the outfield wet when the weather clears."
The Australians will play the friendly match at Wellington Point to prepare for the first test of the Ashes series at the Gabba on December 8.
Mr Lloyd was confident the squad would be on the field tomorrow, with rain expected to clear by Wednesday afternoon.
"The weather is looking very favourable for us on Thursday and Friday," he said. "Most of the rain is missing us on the east coast and just hitting the guts of Brisbane."
The Australian team is expected to come out firing after a sexting controversy prompted a leadership shake up, with captain Tim Paine replaced by fast bowler Pat Cummins.
If the weather holds, the first friendly hit-up will start at 10am Thursday.
