Storms are moving through the south-east region this afternoon, prompting a warning from the Weather Bureau.
The warning, issued at 2.53pm by the bureau, said heavy rain and strong winds could affect people in the Logan, Scenic Rim, Redland City and Gold Coast areas.
There are two cells, one moving east and the other south-east.
Heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, damaging winds and large hailstones is expected.
Beaudesert has recorded almost 72 mm of rainfall since 9am.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
- Move your car under cover or away from trees.
- Secure loose outdoor items.
- Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
- Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
- Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
- Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.

The storms could interrupt play at the first Ashes Test at the Gabba, where the teams are between innings after Australia bowled England out cheaply.
Australia was due to go out and bat after England's horror start to the campaign. They were all out for 147.
