CHARITABLE organisation Aus Aid hosted a two-day drag race event at Kooralbyn over the weekend.
The event was in support of the Rural Doctor Foundation, with RDF chair and Beaudesert GP Michael Rice in attendance selling raffle tickets with major prizes including a helicopter flight over the Gold Coast and a free car service donated by Kooralbyn's own mechanic "Rev it Up Adam", who also had five cars on the track.
With more than 120 cars registered, drivers took turns on the 1/8 mile strip to race for bragging rights, trophies and a $5000 winner takes all cash prize.
There were also food trucks, a licensed bar and kids activities on offer.
Beaudesert developer James Robinson was in attendance, arriving in his helicopter, much to the delight of local children.
Local police also dropped in.
Beaudesert police station's acting officer-in-charge Lauren Reeve said traffic officers issued a few fines.
"But they did say that the behaviour of people in attendance was exceptional," she said.
"There were some traffic infringements issued out there but that was due to the sheer volume of people out there.
"Overall the crowd was really well behaved and they drove in a safe manner."
Competitors and spectators from out of town stayed at The Kooralbyn Valley resort or camped on the airstrip, enjoying a performance by country singer Mick Oberle.
