Nominations have opened for the annual Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year award, which looks to pay tribute to contributions made by Australian dads to their families and community both on and off the sporting field.
This year's winner will be crowned on Father's Day on September 4 and will acknowledge fathers who have kept community sport alive.
BMX Olympic Gold Medallist at the 2020 Tokyo Games Logan Martin was the winner of last year's celebrity 'Sports Dad of the Year' award. Born in Logan, the professional freestyle BMX rider was the first Olympic BMX gold medallist after the sport made its debut at last year's Olympics.
As a father himself, Martin said he knew how important his father's support was growing up, and aspired to do the same for his own kids.
"In my younger years of playing sport, my dad was such a great support, driving me to Rugby League training, being a judge and generally just helping out and getting involved," he said.
"Every little bit helps and keeps sports alive, so it's really cool to see dads get unexpected recognition for doing so."
Now in its ninth year, the annual award has highlighted positive contributions that Australian dads have made to community sport.
Founder of the Community Sports Dad of the Year award Paul Masluk said the strength and passion showcased through nominations showed how important dads were to the future of community and professional sport.
"Every athlete has their story of who has supported them over the years and in many cases that's a dad who has committed their weekends to champion community sports from the sidelines or behind the scenes," he said.
"This Award is an opportunity to come together and collectively say thanks ahead of Father's Day."
Amongst the prizes for the award, is a $5,000 Rebel Sports voucher which can be used to purchase clothing or sporting equipment for the community sports club chosen by the winner.
Nominations will close at midnight on August 21.
