A SUPPORT group for men battling cancer will be formed for the first time in the Redlands after resounding interest in the idea was piqued.
Cancer Council Queensland Redlands branch secretary Pam Tranter said she was not aware of any service like it in the area, with a support network for men affected by cancer sorely needed.
“Men get cancer just like women,” she said.
The first group get-together is planned for 10am on Tuesday, October 31 at the Victoria Point YMCA.
Ms Tranter said the meet-ups, to be attended by expert guest speakers, would help men fighting cancer and those had survived to not feel alone during tough times.
“The group is for men who have been newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment or survivors of some time,” she said.
“Each person will have the opportunity to talk about their cancer, their treatment and any fears or worries they have.”
Ms Tranter said the group was formed after the idea was pitched at a meeting earlier this month.
Victoria Point YMCA is at 128 Link Road, Victoria Point.
