PLEASANT outdoor conditions are expected on the Australia Day long weekend across south-east Queensland.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Adam Woods said there was a lot to like about the weather predicted.
“There are pretty good conditions for getting out and about in BBQ weather, with not a great deal of rainfall and light showers,” he said.
The mercury is expected to reach about 29 degrees in bayside areas today, with light showers expected from Saturday.
Mr Woods said storms might later brew at the Gold Coast’s hinterland, the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane’s western suburbs.
A cyclone was also likely to develop just below Papua New Guinea in the Coral Sea, with the potential to bring some rainfall to south-east Queensland despite travelling east.
“While cyclones don’t directly affect the south-east, a cyclone can transition into a low and move southwards and bring rainfall,” he said.
“There is a moderate chance of (cyclone) development in the Coral Sea on Saturday and moderate chance on Sunday.
“Tropical cyclone season runs until the end of April, so there is plenty of time to see more tropical cyclone activity this season.”
The next tropical cyclone to form would be named Kelvin.
