ARMED with Go Cards and loads of enthusiasm, youth teams across the Redlands braced themselves for a day full of adventure and challenges for the Redlands Amazing Race.
The April 13 race kick-started Redlands National Youth Week celebrations .
The brainchild of members of YTALK Redlands Youth Forum, the race was designed to highlight what the Redlands has to offer young people.
The 10 teams of four turned up in the rain at the race starting line at Victoria Point State High School.
Challenges included kayaking at Kindilan Outdoor Education Centre, earth ball crawling at Capalaba Regional Park, finding ‘The boss’ at Capalaba Central and Capalaba Park Shopping Centres, singing to pre-school children at KidsXpress day care and a giant game of Connect Four at Cleveland.
Ormiston College’s Aaron Barker-Smith, David Todd, Sean Mathews and Joshua Gatehouse crossed the finishing line in first place.
The race was also designed to give others an opportunity to learn about YTALK Redlands Youth Forum, which gives teenagers an opportunity to raise and discuss youth issues and have a voice within Council.
YTALK members met with event coordinator Glen Covill from ‘Life. Be in it’ Fun Works every week since January to organise the Redlands Amazing Race.
Other events in Redlands included a Big Youth Week Beach Party, a Bay Islands Youth Group Disco and the launch of an Island App at Russell Island.
