TWO local mortgage broking offices recently joined forces to help support the fundraising efforts for charity.
Smartline Cleveland and Home Loan Connexion Cleveland raised more than $4000 at a recent charity night to support Suncorp branch manager Di Retchford and her efforts to assist Youngcare.
Di was one of 15 supporters who spent eight days walking more than 300kms across the Simpson Desert to raise funds for the national not-for-profit organisation, which provides choice in care and housing options for the 7500 young people currently living in aged care, and the further 700,000 being cared for at home.
The hugely draining mental and physical challenge undertaken by Di and the others has seen them raise an amazing $587,000 for Youngcare.
The charity night event, organised by Karen Le Comte and Jillian Clifford from Smartline, and Tracy Kearey from Home Loan Connexion, with the support of local businesses and individuals, was attended by more than 90 people at the Redlands Rugby League Club.
Raffles, auctions, a Rockwiz trivia segment, a champagne relay and karaoke competition were all part of evening's entertainment.
"While we all had a lot of fun on the night, we certainly didn't forget the importance of what Di was doing and we all gained some insight into what she was going through with a live broadcast of her journey," Karen said.
"Jillian, Tracy and I would like to thank everyone for their involvement in and support of the Youngcare charity night, and to congratulate Di on her amazing achievement!"
