THE police presence on North Stradbroke Island has been ramped up as students travel over for pre-schoolies celebrations.
About 300 teenagers made the pilgrimage to the island on the weekend, with police waiting near the Dunwich ferry terminal to conduct breath testing and provide reminders about acting responsibly.
Schoolies have already been evicted from two rental houses after noise complaints and 10 people have been charged with 12 alcohol and drug related offences, including drink driving and public nuisance.
A contingent of officers from both the Bayside Patrol Area Tactical Crime Squad and the Road Policing Unit are supporting Dunwich police on the island over the next week.
Dunwich Police Station officer-in-charge Sergeant Peter Twort urged students to party safely and responsibly over the holidays.
"Speaking not just as a copper but also as a parent, it's a shame to see someone who's so close to the end of their school career coming unstuck because of some unfortunate choices," he said.
More than 30 liquor infringement notices have been handed out to underage drinkers over the weekend.
Sergeant Twort said it was important for young people to consider their own safety.
"If young people are seriously affected by alcohol, they could become victims of crime and seen as a soft target," he said.
Police will continue to monitor the island for the rest of the holidays.
