REDLAND City Council will decide whether to can the state government-sanctioned planning scheme for Toondah Harbour at its meeting on Wednesday.
Division 2 councillor Craig Ogilvie wants the council to scrap the plan and notify the Minister for Economic Development Queensland, deputy premier Jeff Seeney.
Cr Ogilvie will also ask council to vote on a proposal to draw up a new scheme that "better takes into account" the environment, economic feasibility, financial implications for council, workings of the harbour; and community expectations.
On Friday, an independent panel of designers, planners and architects released their alternative scheme for the ferry terminal and Cleveland CBD, drawn up at a two-day workshop.
Australian Institute of Architects Queensland Chapter president Shane Thompson, who convened the workshop, said strategies included a "revenue-neutral proposition" to renovate harbour infrastructure and parking.
"This dreadful and grandiose PDA scheme is something of the type we would normally only expect of some lunatic despotic government in the Third World," Mr Thompson said.
He said the workshop recommended smaller developments across the city linking Raby Bay with Cleveland's CBD?and the ferry terminal.
The workshop panel also recommended a waterfront recreational attraction, such as a water park, at Masthead Drive.
Mayor Karen Williams encouraged the workshop group to sell its ideas to a developer.
