NINE players from Redland Bombers have been selected for the 42-man North East Australian Football League squad to play the West Australian Football League on Saturday, May 24.
Redland has the most representatives in the squad, followed by NT Thunder with eight.
Bombers Blake Grewar, Cleve Hughes, Josh Smith, Andrew Scott, Paul Hunter, Phil Carse, Adrian Williams, Darren Pfeiffer and Luke Scott will travel to Sydney's Spotless Stadium for the game, a curtain raiser to the GWS Giants vs Richmond Tigers.
It will be the first time a combined NEAFL side of players from New South Wales, ACT, Queensland and the Northern Territory has played a representative clash, and the first time many in the squad have met each other.
Squad member and Redland Football Club player Phil Carse said he was not concerned the group would only meet on the Thursday before the match.
"All of these matches will be great exposure for the players, who will then bring that experience back to their clubs and hopefully bolster crowd numbers at home games," he said.
"More exposure also means players have a greater chance of being drafted into the AFL and Redlands has already had Adam Oxley drafted into Collingwood under 21s."
NEAFL squad coach Daniel Archer, the former NT Thunder coach, said one team of the league's top players was great for the national competition.
The NEAFL squad will also play the Tasmanian Football League in Hobart on June 21.
Both matches will be live streamed on www.neafl.com.au
