Capalaba, busy, bustling and the business hub of the Redlands and surrounds, has a great many interesting recreational opportunities.
Capalaba Regional Park
The park offers 14 hectares of walking, cycling, picnicking, playing and wildlife.
There are exercise circuits, barbecues, play areas including a flying fox, timber fort and embankment slide.
Treed and wide open spaces make the park ideal for young families.
Redland Youth Plaza adjacent to John Fredericks Park
Capalaba is home to the largest skate and BMX facilities in South East Queensland.
Located within easy walking distance of the bus interchange, The Redland Youth Plaza, which opened in December 2007, has benefited the entire community.
Variously acclaimed as "fun", "definitely worth a visit", "check it out" and "one of the best (skate) parks in Brisbane", the facility just off Old Cleveland Road (adjacent to the soccer fields) has been a great success.
Located away from residential areas, it can be also used for music and events.
Capalaba Cinemas
Birch Carroll & Coyle cinemas upstairs at Capalaba Central offer eight screens w ith up to 399 seats, most of which have 3D capability. Hugely popular with families, seniors and students, the cinema complex is also a great place for a kid's birthday party or seniors' event.
Capalaba Produce Old Cleveland Road
It is not just a produce store but a small village of charming timber shops and an iconic windmill creating that country feel.Check out Ted's Corner and the small farm animals for sale the kids will love it. Kiwi Fine Foods is in the village and sells food from NZ and home decor items. Grab a coffee at the cafe or choose something for the garden from the well-stocked plant nursery.
Capalaba Sports Club
Good sports meet at Capalaba Sports Club in Ney Road. The club has been supporting the community for almost 30 years, providing a safe, fun atmosphere where friends and family can gather to enjoy good food, friendly service and quality entertainment at an affordable price.
Capalaba Golf Driving Range Mt Gravatt - Capalaba Road
Even if you're not a golfer, you can still try your skill at driving, chipping and putting golf balls it could be lots of fun. It is open seven days a week.
Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club
Established in 1947 the club has an interesting history. The races take place on Saturday afternoons. Admission is $5 for adults, kids are free 12 dogs in each race over 366 metres. In 2006 the record for the fastest greyhound over a measured distance anywhere in the world went to Lincoln Stanley at the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club. He ran 366 metres in 19.51 seconds, which is 67.53 kilometres per hour. The track record is held by Migaloo Magic, who ran 366 metres in 19.36 seconds in 2011.
Tingalpa Creek Reserve
Retreat to the serenity of the bush, within minutes of suburban Capalaba. Renowned for its great walking and running trails, the reserve also has picnic and fishing spots worth exploring.
Bicycle routes
Capalaba has many official bike paths but the most fun ride takes you from Killarney Crescent, along the Tingalpa Creek, through Capalaba Regional Park, under Old Cleveland Road, through John Fredericks Park and through bushland to Brewer Street. It's great fun and great exercise.
Redlands PCYC
Redlands PCYC has many interesting activities for all ages including basketball, martial arts, self-defence, boxing and kick boxing, gymnastics and kindy gym. There's also a refurbished weights room.
Handmade Expo Market Redlands PCYC
Try the market for everything hand-crafted, home-grown, hand-made and home-baked. The market includes entertainment and food to eat in or take home.
Redland Art Gallery Capalaba Place, Noeleen Street, Capalaba
Exhibitions at the award-winning gallery capture the diverse culture and history of the area. There is lots happening here, so check out the Redland City Council website for upcoming exhibitions and events.
