The posts alleged that police officers were door-knocking yesterday in Victoria Point, particularly in the Thompson's Beach area, to advise local residents of the alleged risk.
However, Bayside Crime Group Detective Inspector Owen Elloy said police had no concerns at all within the greater Thompson's Beach area.
“Certainly no police officers or volunteers in policing have door-knocked an area in the Redlands in the past weeks,” Det. Insp. Elloy said.
“I would invite the person that posted this bogus and misleading information to contact me personally to outline her knowledge of this event.
“Certainly more care should be taken when posting this type of information.”
